MAY IN MONTCLAIR OPENING CEREMONY:

Edgemont School students will dress the May Pole, performing a traditional May Pole dance while accompanied by the ORFF Ensemble and the Sign Language Chorus. The Northeast School 5th Grade Blue Hawks Band, conducted by their music teacher, Shawn Dey, will perform. There will also be a performance of three songs by the 4th and 5th grade chorus of Watchung Elementary School. Watchung Plaza, 12:00 noon.

MAY POLE CELEBRATION, sponsored by Bradford School:

The Bradford School will welcome the month of May with a celebration around the May Pole. Second graders will do the May Pole dance, while third graders perform Renaissance music on their recorders. Fourth and fifth graders will recite poems they composed about spring. Bradford School Courtyard at 9:30am. For more information call 973-509-4155.

TRIBAL ROOTS IN THE GARDEN STATE: 2008 NJ ARTS ANNUAL CRAFTS, sponsored by the Montclair Art Museum:

This juried crafts exhibition explores artists’ sense of tribe and celebrates the diversity of the Garden State. OZ: SCULPTURES IN CLAY, sponsored by The Clay Studio:

These clay sculptures, based on the Oz series by Frank Baum, were created by students, ages 8-13, who attend class at The Clay Studio. KAY WALKINGSTICK’S AMERICAN ABSTRACTION: DIALOGUE WITH THE COSMOS, sponsored by the Montclair Art Museum:

The site-specific landscape mural installation reflects the artist’s Native American heritage. Parfleche bags used to transport food and clothing hang alongside an ink painting of mountains. THE MARVIN SONGS, sponsored by Montclair State University:
